Bringing world-class logistics infrastructure and scalable services to Qatar’s MSME sector

Qatar is on a journey to becoming a sustainable economy, guided by its human, social, economic, and environmental development, as outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.

Acting as a blueprint for Qatar, QNV 2030 is focused on diversification from an oil-driven economy into a knowledge-based one, by enabling a business environment that promotes innovation and sustainability ahead of other factors. Providing a significant boost in terms of growth opportunities for the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector of the country.

Initiatives and Investments
Towards this grand vision, Qatar continues to invest heavily in domain-wide infrastructure including but not limited to sustainable technologies, artificial intelligence, value-added services, end-to-end logistics, occupational health and safety, and benchmark quality practices. Additionally, the focus is on developing in-country manufacturing, engineering, and marketing capabilities by putting technology to good use. Among the numerous initiatives that have been implemented, taking precedence is the Qatar Science and Technology Park, an initiative aimed at promoting technological research and development.

Qatar is attracting new businesses to the country, from micro, small to medium-sized enterprises to support its vision. To ensure it, the state has and will continue to introduce more efficient and effective ways for MSME businesses to operate with ease in Qatar.

Role of the MSME sector
Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises are the key drivers of this economic growth. They facilitate diversity and are emerging as the epicentre of equitable development. In line with it, Qatar seeks to nurture the MSME sector as it accounts for a growing share of GDP and employment. Furthermore, they will have a larger share in contributing to the overall growth of the industrial economy which includes helping the nation to move away from its reliance on hydrocarbon industries and sectors.

A lot is riding on the MSME sector as they have a critical role to play in the innovation and economic growth of the country. It’s important to understand that being agile and responsive to change makes them essential to help lay the foundation for future companies and integral for employment and revenue generation. To cater to this demand, developing industrial and logistics parks are the next logical steps in the grand scheme of things.

Challenges of MSMEs in Qatar
One of the biggest challenges MSMEs face is lacking the necessary infrastructure and logistical support to thrive and compete in today’s market. An agile supply chain is critical for MSMEs to operate effectively and profitably. A supply chain refers to the network of organizations that are involved in the production and distribution of a product or service.

MSMEs are key to the diversification of  Qatar’s economy and thus require all-around support to ensure their growth and sustainability. Some of the key requirements to start and operate a business successfully are:

• Easy access to transportation and shipping routes

• A central location that is close to major markets

• Modern and well-equipped facilities

• A wide range of services with expertise support
